The annual Summary of Deposits (SOD) survey and instructions for the period ending June 30, 1999, will be mailed on July 9 to institutions with more than a main office facility. While minor changes have been made to the instructions for clarification, no changes have been made to the survey.

Financial institutions will again have the option to FILe their SOD survey electronically rather than return the hard-copy form. Electronic Data Systems (EDS) serves as the collection agent for the SOD survey. For your bank to FILe its SOD survey electronically, you must use computer software that has been certified by EDS. Certified software is available through certain vendors that have completed a certification process. Alternatively, your bank may develop its own SOD software, but you must complete the certification process.

EDS has certified for electronic submission software products marketed by DBI Financial Systems, Inc. (800-774-3279), DPSC Software, Inc. (800-825-3772), and Sheshunoff Information Services, Inc. (800-505-8333). The �౦��Ϸ���� has provided these software companies with a significant number of edits that it uses to validate SOD survey information.

The FILing deadline for submitting the hard-copy form is July 30, 1999; for electronic FILing, the deadline is August 16, 1999.

Please contact the �౦��Ϸ���� Trust and Survey Group at 1-800-765-4081 if you have recently established your first branch office, or if you have a branch office but have never completed a SOD survey. A listing of financial institutions and the branch offices reported to the �౦��Ϸ���� is available on the �౦��Ϸ����’s Internet site at: www2.fdic.gov/structur/search/findoneinst.asp.

If your institution was involved in a merger or purchase/sale prior to July 1 that is not reflected on the survey form that you receive in early July, please contact the �౦��Ϸ���� Structure Unit at 202-898-3834 or send an e-mail (supervision@fdic.gov). The �౦��Ϸ���� will ensure that the transaction is processed immediately, and we will send a revised SOD survey form. The software vendors will also send revised software packages to applicable institutions by July 28, if requested.

All data collected from the SOD survey are available to the public. Banks may receive published deposit information from the �౦��Ϸ���� in booklet form, on computer printout or on magnetic tape. SOD survey data are also available on the �౦��Ϸ����’s Internet site (www2.fdic.gov/sod).
